20) The scientific journal Evo-Devo (by Theodor Zbinden)

Logo of the Evo Devo Journal
Evo devo is a scientific journal that publishes topics on evolutionary developmental biology, the translation from genotype to phenotype in a phylogenetic context.  The journal supports research done on history of life, the generation of form and evolution of new form.  Evo devo is one of many journals of the Springer Science+Business Media a global publishing company that publishes peer reviewed journals, text books from science, techniques and medicine.  Springer science is the largest book publisher and second largest journal publisher after Elsevier.  This means that the Evo devo journal reaches a wide audience.  But why should a scientist publish his work in the evo devo journals, aside fromf having the required investigation subject?  First of all evo devo has an open access policy that allows to have a wide and global audience.  Another aspect is the speed of publication without neglecting the quality of the peer review.  As soon as the article is accepted by the journal it will be publish in a PDF format, later on it will be accessible also as a full browsable web form.  Because the articles are published online, authors have the flexibility to load larger data sets and images with high definition.  Articles from the evo devo journal are included in different promotion strategies such as email updates, mailings to biomedical centers or
highlighting them in the evo devo journal itself.  And last but not least authors retain their copyright of the article.  As mentioned earlier, evo devo publishes science related in evolutionary and devopmental biology like evolution of pattern, life history evolution, homology and character evolution, phylogenetic and paleontology, and comparative genomics.  All articles published in the journal are of free online axes without subscription.  The authors of the articles published will keep their copyright of the work.  The cost of a publication of an article costs $2235, if the author is a member of the journal there will be no cost charged.  The published articles in Evo devo are also published in different other databases like PubMed, Google Scholar, Scirus and others.  Any manuscript submitted to evo devo cannot be published ad the same time in another journal.  Research on humans has to be done in compliance with the Helsinki Declaration, and experiments with animals have to be in compliance with international recognized guidelines of animal handling.  The journal has the responsibility to ensure that no libelous content is included in the text of the article.  If a scientist submitted a manuscript,

all reproducible materials and raw data under that submission will be available for other scientist that are interested to see the results.  After a possible rejection by the journal for a submitted publication the author has the right to appeal the decision.  However in first instance the author should contact the editor in chief to know more about the procedure.  The journal is a member of the CrossCheck plagiarism detection initiative.  If the editor suspects a plagiarism or lake of originality they can us the tool CrossCheck that detects overlapping and similar texts from the article submitted.  Citations in the evo devo journal should be done in the same way as in other traditional scientific journals.  In conclusion the Evo devo journal offers many advances over other regular scientific journals.  That should motivate possible future presenting authors to publish their work in Evo devo.
